Gorham Times: Vote Yes On 1
To the editor,
I am writing to express my strong support for voting Yes on 1, a crucial initiative that will put an end to the corrosive influence of big money in Maine's elections. It is imperative that we take action to ensure that our democracy is protected and that the voice of the people is not drowned out by out- of-state billionaires and big corporations.
By placing a limit of $5,000 on contributions to political action committees (PAC), Yes on 1 will close the loopholes that allow special interests to buy elections. This will effectively get big money out of politics and restore balance to our political process. It is time to put the public good ahead of special interests and give candidates with the best ideas, regardless of their financial backing, a fighting chance.
The current state of our political system is deeply flawed and leaves room for the undue influence of wealthy individuals and corporations. Super PACs and unlimited campaign contributions have tilted the playing field in favor of those with deep pockets, while the voices of everyday Mainers are often overlooked. Yes on 1 is the change we need to level the playing field and ensure that our elections are free and fair.
Moreover, by stopping billionaires, big corporations, and special interests from buying elections, Yes on 1 will protect our democracy for future generations. We all have a responsibility to safeguard the principles upon which our country was founded, and that includes taking action to end the corrosive influence of money in politics. It is time to put more power in the hands of Maine voters and give more voice to the people.
Please vote Yes on 1 this November. To learn more and take action with Maine Citizens to
